Many of the documentary films licensed for streaming use by Trexler Library already include Public Performance Rights.

Streaming Media with PPRs

Academic Video Online (AVON)
Muhlenberg's Academic Video Online subscription delivers over 70,000 titles spanning the widest range of subject areas including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, music, and more. More than 18,000 titles are exclusive to Alexander Street.
Academic Video Online - PPR Info
"Films available in Academic Video Online include limited public performance rights, which includes permission for classroom showings, as well as public screenings, as long as no admission is being charged."

According to our Kanopy rep: "all of our Kanopy titles come with showing rights that allow you to host events and screen our films, so long as the screening is free and held on your campus grounds. Our rights do not permit the streaming of our films virtually over Zoom or other conferencing programs."

California Newsreel - PPR Info
"Licensee may use the DVD (when provided), in activities directly administered by the Licensee (the purchaser), including in-class instruction, course-management software, library reference, distance learning, extracurricular programming and performances open to the public provided no admission is charged (public performance) for the life of the DVD."

Films on Demand - PPR Info.
"The prices for all programs listed on this website include full protection for public performances. A public performance is a non-theatrical performance of a program, without charge, outside the home to a gathering of people other than family members and or acquaintances. These gatherings are normally found in locations such as schools, libraries, and religious and civic institutions. Public performance rights also include closed-circuit transmission within a single building or on a single, geographically unified campus."

Films on Demand is the Streaming platform of Films Media Group.

Docuseek2 - PPR info.
"Classroom Use: A performance of a program in classrooms or other related venues, for audiences of more than one person, conducted without charging admission. In this context, programs may be shown by any means that do not require digitization, transfer, alteration, duplication or reproduction."

New Day Films - PPR info.
"Classroom Use: Streaming, exhibition or display of Streamed Content or DVD Content in classrooms or other venues, for audiences of more than one person, conducted without charging admission. In this context, Streamed Content may be exhibited by any means not requiring additional digitization, alteration, duplication or reproduction."

Women Make Movies - PPR info.
"Purchase effectively means lease for the life of the format. Prices include public performance rights for organizational or library use by the acquiring institution for non-paying audiences only. See License Agreement for full terms."

Streaming video with NO PPRs

Note that most streaming 'Feature Films' do NOT have public performance rights (PPR) included.

This includes most films from Swank and Criterion Pictures.

This doesn't mean you can't use a film from these vendors, but it does mean that if you wish to publicly screen a film from these vendors outside the classroom, you will need to procure PPR prior to viewing.
