Encompass Search finds information by searching through a massive collection of books and scholarly journals, as well as newspapers and magazines, dissertations, conference proceedings, music, video, maps, and more.
To find only books, use the Books limit on the left sidebar of your search results page. Many items will be in Trexler Library; note the call number and status of the item to check its location and availability. For items not in Trexler Library, use the Interlibrary Loan button to request a copy from another library.
Using Databases to Find Books
While we typically use databases (like Communication and Mass Media Complete) to find journal articles, remember that many databases include citations to (and sometimes full text of) books and book chapters, as well. Check the Finding Articles tab for links to helpful databases!
Don't Forget About Books
While scholarly journals are commonly used in media and communication studies research, scholarly books can be very relevant, as well. Many scholarly books in media and communication studies are actually edited collections of chapters. A chapter in an edited collection can be much like a scholarly journal article; many even go through peer-review before publication.
