Graphic Novels at Trexler Library

A guide to help you find some of the library’s hidden treasures.

Searching by genre or form

Because all graphic novels aren’t physically located in one place, the easiest way to search for graphic novels is in the online catalog with a genre term search

This type of  search is easy to do using the advanced search prefix: “ge:”

In the search box type the following:

ge:graphic novels

As shown here:

This search will result in a list of all of the items in our collection assigned that genre term.  Within the list you will notice that many graphic novels are classified by 'form' as works of art, in the Dewey Class number 741.5 along with other works on “drawing and decorative arts.”

Others are given different call numbers - call numbers reflecting the Subject depicted by the work.

Using Genre to search for movies or literature

Searching by genre (using the search ge=graphic novels ) is the best way to locate items of this type no matter where they are physically located in Trexler Library.

Genre term search can also be profitably used to search for movies or literature of a certain genre.
