Music Research - finding the score

How to locate music scores for research and performance at Trexler Library.

Music for 'large' ensembles of instruments with more than one of the same instrument per part is commonly known as 'Orchestral' music and is located in Dewey SCO 784.

The largest part of this type is music for a symphony orchestra, but other types include:

  • String orchestra music
  • Wind band music
  • Jazz band music
  • Brass band music

Music for Symphony orchestra is by far the largest part of this classification.  At Trexler Library, we do not subdivide "orchestral music" into the smaller distinctions of form (like Suites, Symphonies, etc.) except for Concertos.

Concertos are typically for Symphonic orchestra plus a solo instrument or group.
